News, Requests, Reminders and Prayers …
Last Sunday our Lay Leader Jon Kottke announced on behalf of our District Superintendent Skip Strickland that Joe (Rev. Joe Agne) will be appointed by Bishop Elaine Stanovsky as pastor of Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church of Cedaredge, Colorado, effective July 1, 2016. Joe’s last Sunday with us will be June 19. All of us wish Joe the very best as he begins this new ministry. Please keep Joe and Dana in your continuing thoughts and prayers in these days.
The project to develop 40 units of affordable housing for at-risk young adults on what is now our church parking lot continues to move forward. Our church will host a community meeting about this project on Thursday, June 23 from 6:00–9:00 pm. Please make every effort you can to attend this meeting. A large showing of positive support will have a significant influence on our Boulder Planning Board and City Council. The Boulder Planning Board will discuss this project on Thursday, July 14.
I wrote a letter to the editor of the Daily Camera about our affordable housing project partnership with Attention Homes. It appeared in yesterday’s paper. You can read the letter by following this link.
Thanks to all who have contributed to our special fundraising effort to bring Celene Lillie to Boulder to work with both our church and with Tanho: The Center for a new New Testament. To date we have $13,880 with 25 gifts. Thank you! Our goal is to raise $20,000 by the end of this month. Please help us reach this goal. You can contribute today by following this link to make an online contribution (select “Other” and type in “Celene Lillie Support”) or you can write a check made payable to FUMC and mark “Celene Lillie Support” in the memo line. Please email me if you have questions: patrickrbruns at fumcboulder dot org.
The Annual Conference of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church is going on right now in Westminster through Sunday, June 12. This annual meeting sets ministry and mission priorities for our conference, adopts the annual budget, ordains pastors, and sets the annual appointments of ministers. This year we will also nominate candidates for the office of Bishop in the United Methodist Church. Please remember our annual conference in your prayers during this important time.
Finally, here is the daily centering prayer I’m using this coming week:
We greet you, O Light of life, awakening us and all things to this day.
We greet you, O Light of life, warming the earth and its creatures into being.
We greet you, O Light of life, in whose dawning we see the shapes and colors of creation.
You are the Sun within the morning sun.
You are the Life within every life.
At the beginning of the day we seek your blessing.
At the rising of the sun we seek your glory.
Open our eyes to your presence, O God, that we may glimpse you at the heart of each moment.
I’ll see you soon. In the meantime please remember our beloved church in your prayers. I remember you in mine.
