Plan to be in church on Sunday, December 10! On that morning at the 10:30 am service, the Chancel Choir & Friends will perform C.P.E. Bach’s Magnificat. A chamber orchestra will join the choir for this special Sunday, and our Director of Music and Organist, Dr. Gerald Holbrook, will conduct.
The Magnificat is a beautiful work that is seldom performed, and it is a special treat for listeners! The poetic Magnificat text from the Bible, found in the first chapter of Luke, is also called the Song of Mary. This beloved text is Mary’s response to her visit from the angel Gabriel, who has just told her that she is soon to become pregnant with Jesus.
C. P. E. Bach (1714-1788)
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) was a transitional composer, writing music that fit in between the style of his baroque father, J. S. Bach, and the classical era that followed. His reputation as a composer surpassed that of his father in his own day, and he was greatly admired by Haydn, Beethoven, and Mozart.
There is no admission charge, and no reservations are required…all are welcome to join us for our 10:30 am worship service on December 10 and enjoy the Magnificat. Don’t miss this special musical event, and please invite your friends! And plan to stay after church for the annual United Methodist Women bake sale, as well as a fair trade market hosted by the local fair trade store, Momentum. Get all your Christmas shopping done in one place!
