Reconciling Sunday is March 11: Special Guest Preacher Rev. John Oda
March 11 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Our 10:30 am worship service on Sunday, March 11 will celebrate our 21st anniversary as a Reconciling Congregation, fully and joyfully welcoming LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) people and their loved ones. In 1997, First United Methodist Church of Boulder joined the Reconciling Ministries Network of the United Methodist Church, a subgroup of United Methodist congregations committed to LGBTQ equality and fully welcoming LGBTQ people into the lives of our churches.
On Reconciling Sunday, we’re honored to welcome our guest preacher, the Rev. John Oda, Pastor of Lake Park United Methodist Church in Oakland, California. Rev. Oda is currently serving on the National Board of PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) as the Co-Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. He is the past recipient of the Bishop Mel Talbert Racial Justice Award, and is the current chair of the National Japanese American United Methodist Clergy Caucus. Rev. Oda’s sermon for Reconciling Sunday is entitled Fear Not: How to Trust God in the Storms of Life based on Matthew 14:22-33.
We’re also delighted to welcome guest musicians the Resonance Women’s Chorus, Sue Coffee, Music Director, on Reconciling Sunday. Resonance’s participation in our Reconciling Sunday service is now a many-years tradition, and we look forward to enjoying the chorus’s beautiful, moving music during worship.
Please mark your calendars and plan to be with us on this very special Sunday! As always, absolutely EVERYONE is welcome!
