Sphere Ensemble Concert at FUMC Boulder!

Starts: Saturday, March 3rd 2012 at 7:30 pm
Ends: Saturday, March 3rd 2012 at 9:00 pm

A flourishing new ensemble will cap its decidedly successful 2011/2012 season with an early March performance. Sphere Ensemble, a conductorless group of 13 professional string players from around the Denver metro area, is already winning accolades in just its first season.

The concert is Saturday, March 3rd at 7:30pm, and will be held at Boulder’s First United Methodist Church of Boulder, 1421 Spruce Street. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and can be purchased at www.BrownPaperTickets.com and with cash or check only at Woodsongs Music store, 2920 Pearl Street in Boulder. Sphere will perform works by Mendelssohn, Janá…ek, and Corelli. They will repeat the program at Bethany Lutheran Church in Denver on Sunday, March 4th at 3:00pm.

Sphere started in April 2011 with a pair of concerts in Denver and Boulder, having the simple goal of gauging local interest in a self-conducted string ensemble. Their debut garnered high praise from audiences and fellow musicians, so the ensemble decided to proceed with a season for 2011/2012. They have since performed three well-received programs in Boulder and Broomfield. Sphere was recently offered a position as Artist-in-Residence with Arts for the Soul, a program designed to foster developing artists and ensembles. Arts for the Soul is hosted by First United Methodist Church of Boulder, where Sphere plans on performing several concerts over the 2012/2013 season.

Sphere’s founder and cellist, Beth Rosbach, gives full credit to the musicians for the success of the ensemble’s first season. “We have some of the best players in Colorado dedicating tremendous energy to the group, and the resulting performances have been astounding. It’s the musicians’ obvious passion that captivates audiences and compels our fans to bring new recruits to the next performance. I am in awe of what these talented performers bring to Sphere.”

Sphere Ensemble consists of 13 professional string players, forming Colorado’s only self-conducted string orchestra. They are planning for the 2012/2013 season, building their fan and donor base, and exploring registering for non-profit status.
