You should have seen the joy at the Boulder County Clerk’s Office at midnight on May 1st. The first-floor was packed with couples waiting to receive a Colorado Civil Union license. The actual licenses were issued on the second floor.
Colorado civil union provisions go into effect at midnight this coming Wednesday May 1st. Joe, Rosalee Blake and I are planning to offer Civil Union blessings beginning at midnight on May 1st at the Boulder County Clerk’s Office, 1750 33rd Street. Members of our beloved church will also be present to offer welcome, support and prayer. I have been meeting with one couple who will be exchanging vows at midnight on May 1st.
As I write this post I am watching the early morning MSNBC reports of the shoot-out and killing of one suspected Boston Marathon bomber and the extensive manhunt for the other suspect. I am hearing that everyone in the city of Boston should “shelter in place” which means stay indoors. News reporters say this kind of lock-down is unprecedented. All public transportation has been shut down. Now there are reports of other persons of interest in custody.
Early Saturday morning our beloved Pastor Joe had emergency surgery to remove a blocked and inflamed gall bladder. Joe is home recovering and doing well. Dana Jones, Joes’ spouse and partner in life, is leading our 9:00 am Adult Forum this Sunday (April 14) focusing on the United Methodist Women’s Charter for Racial Justice. Joe is planning to be here Sunday for both our forum and for worship. Let’s keep Joe and Dana in our prayers for continuing good recovery and healing. May God give them, and all of us, everything we need and all that it takes, in this difficult time.
