Expressing Gratitude: Civility and Human Rights
What does it mean to be grateful? To give gratitude for something? In a world in which we see an ever-increasing impulse toward individualism—I, me, mine—we often forget that life would not be possible without the interconnected web which sustains us. When we are able to be in our gratitude, we practice the sacralization of life and one other. Jesus reminds us that it is what comes out of the human heart that matters (Mark 7:20-21): will we love our neighbor, or exploit and harm? In this first week of Advent we will explore the connections between gratitude and the way we treat one another through civility and human rights.
