The Global Climate Strike on Friday, September 20, 2019, is a world-wide opportunity to peacefully take to the streets and call for swift, measurable action to address the global climate crisis. This historic event will take place as part of a weekend of events leading up to the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit in New York City on September 23. Inspired by the youth-led Fridays for Future movement, weekly school strikes for climate change organized by 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg that have spread all over the world, the Global Climate Strike is the first event in a full week of climate-related happenings in cities across the globe.
