12/21 Winter Solstice Service Also Celebrates Labyrinth’s 15th Anniversary
December 21, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
All are invited to a Winter Solstice service on the Labyrinth at First United Methodist Church of Boulder on Wednesday, 12/21, at 6:30 PM. Join us for this celebration of the longest night of the year and the birth of the new season of lengthening days.
The traditions of the Christmas season have deep roots in the older, earthier celebrations of the longest night of the year and its celebration of the “unconquered sun.” Our celebration on our beautiful indoor labyrinth also marks the 15th anniversary of the opening of this unique sacred space.
Revs. Barbara Middleton and Dale Beck will lead the service, and sound artists Joy Sylvia and Michael Heartsong will provide mystical sounds using a variety of instruments.
Walk the labyrinth while Joy and Michael play a variety of instruments, surrounding you with the mystical sounds of didgeridoos, handpan, flute, drum, vocal toning and more. The labyrinth and sound are both ancient tools for journeying within to connect, release and renew. The soundscapes will set the tone for a full hour, allowing time for you to relax and bathe in the healing space before and after your walk. The instruments played will provide a rich tonal spectrum to invoke ‘deep listening’ — a sense of becoming fully present and listening with the whole body. Absolutely everyone is welcome at this FREE event. At First United Methodist Church, we believe that all of us are beloved children of God, including persons of all sexual orientations and gender identifications.
