On the Mark Exhibit in Sanctuary Gallery through 8/21
August 1, 2016 @ 9:00 am - August 21, 2016 @ 12:00 pm
Have you noticed the amazing art exhibit currently hanging in our sanctuary gallery space? On the Mark is an exhibition of work by four Boulder artists, Diane Stum Fekete, Lisa Nesmith, Dismas Rotta, and Stefka Trusz, who consciously incorporate mark making in their artwork.
Everything leaves a mark, proof of presence or events. The most fundamental element of the visual arts is the mark; a mark extended in time becomes a line, and a series of lines on a surface become a drawing. Deliberately and unconsciously, expressively and mechanically, permanently and ephemerally, humans make marks. Marks record time and contain a trace memory of the artists’ actions. The character of a line or brush stroke in a painting, the calligraphic rendering of motifs, the gouging of wood for a print, or the layering of images on a collage – marks tell stories of the artists’ intentions.
On the Mark runs through August 21st. You are welcome to come and see the exhibit during regular church building hours during the week: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Just stop by the church office first for access to the sanctuary gallery. You’re also welcome to enjoy the exhibit on Sunday before or after our 10:30 am worship service. Everyone is welcome!
There will be a special reception in the narthex and sanctuary at First United Methodist Church of Boulder on Friday, August 6, from 6:00-9:00 pm as part of the NoBo (North Boulder Art District) First Fridays project. Learn more about NoBo by visiting NoBo’s website.
