CANCELED: In Conversation with J.J. Warren

March 14, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

UPDATE: MARCH 12, 2020

Unfortunately, J.J. Warren will not be able to come to Boulder for our Reconciling Anniversary weekend March 14-15. The time of conversation with J.J., originally scheduled for March 14, has been CANCELED. On Sunday, March 15, J.J. will lead our Forum program via Zoom (an online meeting platform) at 9:00 AM, and we’ll livestream his message in our 10:30 AM worship service. Boulder’s Resonance Women’s Chorus, who planned to sing in our March 15 worship service, have also canceled due to COVID-19.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED. Join us on Saturday, March 14, from 10:00 AM-12:30 PM on the peaceful, contemplative labyrinth at FUMC for a time of informal conversation with J.J.: The Time is Now. Please feel free to bring a snack or sack lunch; water will be provided. Also, childcare is available upon request. This event is FREE and open to all. If possible, please RSVP to the church office by email or by calling 303.442.3770; your RSVP helps us know how much water we’ll need, and also how many children will be needing childcare.

J.J. Warren

J.J. Warren is a seminary student at Boston University School of Theology, a graduate of New York’s Sarah Lawrence College (’19), and a certified candidate for ordination in The United Methodist Church (UMC). After making an impassioned plea for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ persons at the United Methodist Church’s top law-making assembly in 2019, J.J.’s speech went viral, and his advocacy has been covered by HuffPost, NBC, Brut Media, and WXXI Radio. His first book, Reclaiming Church: A Call to Action for Religious Rejects, is now available from Abingdon Press.

J.J. spent a year at Oxford University, England, where he studied Biblical Hebrew, Early Church history, and gender studies of late antiquity. He founded a progressive Christian community on his undergraduate campus, and founded Team Forward, an online collective of queer youth/young adults and allies who seek to grow in ministry, use their voices, and reclaim the Church through radical love. J.J. now travels the world preaching a message of collective forward progress and inclusion. His summer 2019 speaking tour, Forward Together, visited more than 30 cities across the United States. Visit his website to learn more!

J.J. had originally planned to travel to Boulder for our Reconciling weekend, but he decided to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He does plan to visit in person later this spring or this summer; keep checking our website for the latest information.

As a Reconciling Congregation, FUMC Boulder is a member church of the Reconciling Ministries Network. From their website: Living into our shared baptismal covenant, Reconciling Ministries Network equips and mobilizes United Methodists to resist evil, injustice, and oppression as we seek justice for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Parking: Onsite parking is available. There is limited parking in the circle drive in front of the church, as well as in the underground parking lot of the Attention Homes Apartments next door (the entrance to the garage is in the alley between Pine and Spruce Streets, accessed from either 14th or 15th Street). There is also a City of Boulder parking garage on 15th Street between Walnut and Pearl (2 blocks from the church). In addition, there is plenty of street parking, both paid and free, in the neighborhood; please read street signs carefully to avoid being ticketed.
Public Transit Options: For those traveling by bus, FUMC Boulder is a 3-block walk from the downtown Boulder bus station at 14th and Walnut, and is also an easy walk from both the Hop (get off at the 15th and Pearl/Pearl Street Mall stop) and the Skip (get off at the Broadway and Spruce stop) bus routes.
