Holiday Giving Opportunities

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The youth of First Church have organized some giving opportunities. Please consider these ongoing ways to give and change lives this holiday season!

Warm Winter Clothing Collection

As you are cleaning out your closets, please consider donating slightly used warm clothing items. Our youth will be collecting these through December (and perhaps even into early January), and delivering them to our neighbors in Nederland sometime in January. Please email Youth Coordinator Heidi Lewis if you have something to donate. You can also drop off warm clothes in the box in the foyer at church, Monday-Thursday between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Place your clothes in the box under the Christmas tree. Please wear your mask, and only stay in the foyer long enough to drop off your clothing.

Please note: the church building will be closed for winter break from December 24–January 3. Thank you.

Every year, Heartfelt Café guests receive a pair of warm socks on the 3rd Sunday in December (Heartfelt Café is our 3rd-Sunday-of-the-month hot lunch program). Please consider donating $10 or more for our youth and Intergenerational Missions team to purchase socks. Mail your check, made payable to First United Methodist Church, to the church, and please write “sock drive” in the memo line. You can also give to the sock drive online. CLICK HERE to visit our donations page; click “Electronic Donations,” and then click “Donate Now.” On the next screen, “Online Donation,” select “Other,” and type in “sock drive.” You can also donate socks by emailing Fran Saxon or Heidi Lewis, and we’ll arrange to pick them up. You can also drop socks off in the box in the foyer at church, Monday-Thursday between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm (last day to drop off is Thursday, December 17). Place your socks in the box under the Christmas tree. Please wear your mask, and only stay in the foyer long enough to drop off your socks. Thank you. Please note: wool socks are best for warmth. All donated socks and funds must be received no later than Thursday, December 17.

Attention Homes Giving Tree

This opportunity has passed. Thanks to all who contributed!

The Attention Homes Giving Tree is happening virtually this year using an online service called SignUp Genius. It’s super easy! You can sign up for one or more gift cards to support homeless and runaway youth being served by Attention Homes, and help them have a merry Christmas. CLICK HERE to go to SignUp Genius and sign up for gift cards ($15, $20, and $25 cards are available for each Attention Homes youth from their preferred venders, and gift cards are grouped according to price on SignUp Genius). Make sure to read the blurb at the top of the signup page for more information. If you have questions, please email Youth Coordinator Heidi Lewis.

Thank you for your generous support of these giving opportunities!
