So What’s SPRC Anyway?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Have you heard mentions of First Church’s SPRC? Have you wondered what it is?

The church’s Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is established by the Methodist Book of Discipline “to assist the pastor(s) and staff in assessing their gifts, maintaining health holistically and work-life balance, and setting priorities for leadership and service.” Its primary responsibilities are to encourage, strengthen, nurture, support, and respect the pastor(s) and staff and their family(s), and to promote unity in the church. It serves as the personnel committee for the church, with responsibility for hiring, contracting, evaluating, promoting, retiring, and dismissing staff personnel as needed.

The Discipline provides for up to nine members of the SPRC, serving overlapping three-year terms. Current members of the SPRC are Cheryl Bort, Lisa Carr, Caitlin Czernik, Lisa Dixon, Wendy Elliott, Jean Hodges, Suzanne Hoover, Karen Sandvold, Dan Swanson, Lenna Kottke (Chair), and ex officio members C.J. Riggins and Jon Kottke (Co-Lay Leaders). Pastor Mike Mather also participates with the committee.

Members of the congregation are welcome to contact any of these members to ask questions, or to share their perspectives on how things are going. And please feel welcome to email Lenna Kottke, Chair, about anything that’s on your mind with regard to SPRC.
