I’ve been a member of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) for 58 years. I’ve made lifelong friendships. When our children were young, we made close friends. When my partner, Betsy Lay, and I talked about getting a civil union, we imagined going to the Office of the Clerk and Recorder, signing the paper, and living happily ever after. But with my work for LGBTQ-inclusion in the United Methodist Church and Betsy’s lifelong membership, we knew we had to take First United Methodist Church (FUMC) up on the offer to receive the union from Pastors Pat Bruns and Joe Agne.
