MINNEAPOLIS, MN. – (February 4, 2026) –Bells will ring out across Minneapolis and St. Paul and Minnesota on Saturday, February 7 at NOON (Central Time). Bells across the United States are invited to join in bell ringing – bronze bells in towers, hand bells, electronic bells starting at NOON, ringing for10 minutes every Saturday until April 4. Organized by the Minnesota non-profit City of Bells, church bells and other bell installations will call citizens to safety amid deep uncertainty as well as offering hope and courage for the future of our communities. Bells historically have been used to spread messages to people in times of need and distress.

Why ring the bells at this time?

We know that Bells perform important civic functions. They signal our oneness as a people, reminding us of our capacity to be united, even though in many ways. They stir our hearts to redouble our commitment to the American ideals of freedom and justice for all. All of this, by the sound of bells. We believe that bells sound messages of hope that one day our community will be whole. We pray that our bells signal a sign of our strength and unity as a people, a sign of our faith in democracy, and a sign of our commitment to work for liberty and justice for all. When there are no words, listen to the bells. – Rebecca Jorgenson Sundquist, Founder City of Bells

At City of Bells, we believe that Bells can be a force for good in our communities at this time.

The United States boasts beautiful bell installations across the country. Bells will magnify their voice by ringing with shared purpose and oneness. From the 66,000 pound World Peace Bell in Kentucky, to the Rockefeller Chapel Bourdon in Chicago to the Singing Bok Tower and Carillon in Florida to the change ringing bells and carillon in the Washington National Cathedral, bells are a part of our national history. Minnesota is home to some of the largest bell installations in the United States. City of Bells, founded in 2015 as a 501c3 non-profit organization, coordinates bell ringing across Minnesota on four holidays: Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, and Veterans Day. City of Bells, based in the Twin Cities, works with churches and institutions throughout MN to coordinate, celebrate, restore, and repair bells through education and discovery.
