Pastor’s Notes: The Gospel is Actionable Idealism
We can live into the world in faith and practices, trusting the gospel is “actionable idealism.” We can practice treating the world as if it is an abundant place – if only we practice resurrection!
At First Church, we feel our lives are enriched as we come together in community, each person entering times of worship from whatever spiritual places they may be, opening our souls to the Spirit of God among us and within us.
First Church Boulder is a Reconciling Congregation, warmly welcoming ALL people, including LGBTQIA+ people and their loved ones. Black Lives Matter.

We invite you to join us for in-person worship at 1421 Spruce Street (on the corner of 15th and Spruce Streets) in downtown Boulder on Sundays at 10:30 am.
Sunday, May 10th, 2026 – Mother’s Day
The Mother’s Day altar flowers are donated by Joan Manly: “In memory of my amazing mother, Marian Underwood, as well as moms everywhere.”
The worship service at First United Methodist Church of Boulder marries a comfortable informality with an appreciation for meaningful tradition passed down to us from past generations and interpreted for today’s world.
With a strong conviction that every individual is loved by God, we welcome ALL to participate in our worship services, including in our monthly celebrations of Communion. Leadership for worship services is a collaboration between ordained pastors and laypersons as we support, strengthen, inform, challenge and minister to each other.
First Church’s music is integral to our worship services and the life of our congregation and community. Sunday worship is enhanced by a variety of choral literature, vocal and instrumental solo work and ensembles, and often highlights our historic and magnificent Roosevelt organ. At First United Methodist Church of Boulder we believe music is one of the most powerful art forms which reflects and transmits the sacred in meaningful, energizing and enlarging ways.
Children of all ages are WELCOME in worship on Sundays! Childcare for young children is available in the nursery.
Masks are optional. If you’d like a mask but don’t have one with you, we’ll be glad to provide you with one.
